Yes, that’s right. I have decided to produce a printed version of The Mumday Times to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity and UNICEF. You can buy a newspaper, to be delivered to your home for Mother’s Day, or you can go one further and place a small ad (or a big ad!) professing your love, thanks and admiration for your mum, gran, carer, whoever you like, for an extra fee.
I am feeling extra specially grateful for my wonderful mum this year as in 2019 she was diagnosed with an inoperable grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumour and I really didn’t think she would still be here with us today. I know how incredibly lucky we are to have my mum with us as just five months after she was diagnosed, our best man David, was given the shocking news that he also had a brain tumour – the exact same type and grade as my mum. I couldn’t believe it. In fact, I’m still struggling to comprehend it today. After a 10 month brave and difficult battle during strict lockdown, David lost his life to this terrible disease leaving behind his little boy, amazing wife, family and friends. My husband lost a brother.
Thanks to the NHS, my mum was given Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy and is extraordinarily lucky that her course of treatment worked and her brain tumour has been halted or put to sleep and she continues to thrive and survive, painting in her garden studio, reading stories in silly voices to her grandchildren and making plans. She is one of the very lucky ones. Brain tumours are indiscriminate and can affect children and adults of any age but the research into this form or cancer is extremely underfunded.
In gratitude for my mum and in celebration of David’s life I wanted to find a way to raise money to help research and fund brain tumour treatment so that there can be more patients who survive.
I would be so grateful if you would sign up to buy a copy of The Mumday Times (I’ll try to make it good!) to raise money for this urgent cause. In response to the war in Ukraine I will also be donating to UNICEF to help children and families caught in the middle of this terrifying conflict.
