Nightdresses and White Dresses

My love affair with white cotton frocks runs deep…

Spring is in the air, I thought. I’ll put together a little piece on lovely white cotton dresses and how nightwear is now the new daywear, I thought. Roll on two weeks and my thesis is finally finished. Sorry about that! Anyway, here are my favourite nightdress brands that double up as day wear for children and few thrown in for the grown-ups too. A beautiful white cotton dress never goes out of style and can be layered up with chunky knits and cowboy boots when it’s chilly and worn with bare feet and strawberry stains when the sun comes out. I thought I’d lost my eldest daughter to sportswear and crop tops but even she is keen on me getting her a lovely white dress for summer. You have no idea how happy this has made me! First up, my favourite girls’ nightie company FAUNE, which is far too good for just sleeping in.

The back detail on this embroidered Wren dress is absolutely gorgeous. I can see these as flower girl dresses. Wren Dress, £68, Faune

The Bay, £58, Faune (going to get this one for my 8 year old)

The Robin, £48, Faune

This little nightdress is from luxury sleepwear company Amiki Children. Again, there are so many designs on this site that could be used as bridesmaid dresses.  Victoria Nightdress €39 (sale price), Amiki Children

This season, Stella McCartney has introduced a collection of special occasionwear clothes to her kids range including this delicate white dress. White Dress, £161, Stella McCartney

The indoctrination of a 70’s kid. Little wonder I’m mad for a floaty white dress. Cotton frocks and nighties were everywhere! I remember being so upset that Tom Kitten’s sisters ruined their crisp white pinafores… I know there are so many other childhood references that I’ve missed out here. Ellie in the 1975 film version of the Water Babies, Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie, for starters… 1. Cult film, Picnic at Hanging Rock 2. Carnation,Lily, Lily, Rose by John Singer Sargent 3. Illustration from The Tale of Tom Kitten by Beatrix Potter 4. Another classic childhood book, A, Apple Pie by Kate Greenaway 5. The 1970 film version of The Railway Children (still cry every time I watch this)

Don’t forget Wendy Darling.

For Grown-Ups

Would love to sleep in this or wear it on holiday. Thinking some of these nightdresses will need to be worn with a slip underneath unless you are verrry bohemian.  Zara Home has a great selection of pretty white cotton nighties. Nightdress, £69.99, Zara Home

I know this doesn’t fit the theme but SO CUTE! Floral nightdress, £29.99, Zara Home

Embroidered Cotton Nightdress, £29.99, Zara Home Thinking this could work for my 12 year old in size small.

Cologne & Cotton is a company I’ve overlooked in the past but they have so many romantic nightdresses that I would love to waft about in.  Isla, £30.60, Cologne & Cotton

Lottie, £30.60, Cologne & Cotton

Isabel Marant always makes a white floaty dress every season. This is from last season but it is a beauty!

Don’t forget Etsy for vintage gems. This one is possibly a bit too French Revolution re-enactment fetishist but I do love it. The price, not so much… Antique French Nightdress , £190.76 from Jan’s Vintage Stuff

French Nightdress, £85.77, Verde Verones, Etsy

And last but not least, this beauty from Doen. If you are of a romantic disposition and haven’t yet discovered this label, I apologise profusely.  Poet Dress, $335, Doen  Now, what can I sell?
