E-bay Loitering…Again

I spend far too much time scrolling through e-bay, etsy and obscure, fusty online antique art archives but one of my less wallet wounding discoveries are these gorgeous, super inexpensive prints by J.H Dowd. Reading between the lines these aren’t technically prints but old pages from Dowd’s books featuring candid illustrations of kids that were hugely popular in the 1930′s. With some pages selling for less than £5 (mainly on etsy) you could frame one of these for a new baby or a child’s birthday and still have money left for a fish and chip supper. There are more expensive colour prints available but I love these simple pencil sketches that convey so much in just a few dextrous strokes. I would love to be able to draw like this. Look out for Dowd in second hand book stores and auctions or get dryzabone eyeballs like me searching the world wide web.
